NEW WELL

We have a new well! The old one didn’t bring forth enough water. It yielded 2,5 m3 but in the summer we need 4 m3. We knew that, really, but all the same you hope that you can get by.

We are in for exciting days. First a hidden well must be located. It’s hard to believe that even in the 21st century this is still done by means of a dowsing rod!

After that, a gigantic drill arrives. On Friday, three tough men start drilling at 9 am and stop at 7 pm. They have a two-hour-break to have some food and rest a bit. By the end of the day, they have reached a depth of 150 metres and water has actually been found. However, they stick to the agreement that less than 500 litres an hour is not enough. So the next day it’s onwards and downwards. And at half past two it’s decision time: the water is pumped out of the cleaned borehole. The boss times the filling of a ten-litre-bucket with a stopwatch. 52 seconds! That means 692 litres per hour and that is more than enough. We heave a sigh of relief.

The borehole is now 180 metres deep.

Subsequently, the plastic pipe is inserted into the borehole and at 6 pm the overpowering noise comes to an end.
